It's another damned Scully-in-jeopardy, Mulder to the rescue story, redeemed by Scully saving Mulder at the end WITH SCIENCE. SCIENCE WINS.

I truly love the ending, and the hostage exchange scene on the bridge is very tightly written. I remember being on the edge of my seat the first time I watched.

Writer: Frank Spotnitz
Director: Rob Bowman
Originally aired: February 17, 1995

Synopsis:
Where do I start?
Cliffhanger resolution: the Alien Bounty Hunter takes Scully hostage and forces Mulder to trade her for his sister, who turns out not to be his sister after all. He has a confrontation with his father. He finds and loses more Samantha clones. "X" gives him the coordinates for the Alien Bounty Hunter's downed UFO in the Arctic Sea, and Mulder takes off in search of his sister again. Scully chases after him. Again.

Most Memorable Quote:
X: You wanted to see me?
MULDER: How was the opera?
X: Wonderful, I've never slept better. I don't like these hasty public meetings, Agent Mulder.
MULDER: I'm sorry. I need your help.
X: It's over. The fat lady is singing.

I was recently playing through the game "Gone Home" with my boyfriend, which has a lot of X-Files references (it's a recent game, but it takes place in 1995, and one of the characters is a big X-Files fan). At one point in the game, you find a page of TV Guide listings with X-Files circled in it. My boyfriend asked me what episode it was based on the date on the TV guide, and I said "Probably 'End Game.'" I'm pretty sure I was right. :)

That was the first thing to pop in my head after seeing this post. I've been meaning to rewatch Colony/End Game again ever since.

Gone Home is referred to as "story exploration game." You play a girl who is coming back home after living abroad for a bit, but the house is strangely empty, and she has to find out what happened to her sister. There's no fighting or anything like that. You explore the house, and in doing so, find things that uncover the story. Since the game is set in 1995, pretty much everything in the house reminded me of being a teenager in the 90s. Magazines, video games, cassette tapes, etc. Having the sister be a big X-Files fan just made the game even more relatable for me. :)

Here's the website for the game: http://www.gonehomegame.com/

The soundtrack is still wonderfully suspenseful. But it's also driving me crazy, because I swear I've heard it somewhere else too, but I don't know where.

Aw yeah, doctor!Scully to Mulder's rescue!
