1x01 "Deep Throat"

Welcome to day two of the [livejournal.com profile] xf_is_love re-watch mini-marathon. I conscientiously watched each and every one of the season one myth-arc episodes before choosing "Deep Throat." Why? Three reasons. It had all of the typical myth-arc-key elements: There's a government cover-up; Mulder thinks there are aliens involved; Scully says there is no conclusive evidence of anything. We get our first look at Mulder's mysterious government source, code-named "Deep Throat." And, despite her relative inexperience as a field agent, Dana Scully is established as a total bad-ass.

Writer: Chris Carter
Director: Daniel Sackheim
Originally aired: September 17, 1993

Synopsis: Despite Mulder's warning from the man we come to know as "Deep Throat," Mulder and Scully travel to Ellens Air Base in Idaho to investigate the whereabouts of a Air Force test pilot. His wife hasn't seen Colonel Budahas since he had a psychotic break several months earlier. During the investigation, despite being stone-walled by the military at every turn, Mulder and Scully see a UFO, which Mulder thinks is alien technology. Scully disagrees. After they're accosted by some Men in Black, who confiscate their findings, punch Mulder, and order them cease and desist, Scully insists they head back to DC. Mulder appears to agree, then ditches Scully and returns to the military base, where he is taken prisoner and mind-wiped. The climax is Scully holding a security agent at gunpoint to force the military to give Mulder back. Back in the car, Mulder admits he doesn't remember anything. Oh, and they return Colonel Budahas to his wife. Guess what: the Colonel's had a memory wipe, too.

Most Memorable Quote:
MULDER: I think they re-wired that man's brain. Some kind of selective memory drain.

SCULLY: The brain doesn't work like that, Mulder. You can't just go in and erase certain files.

Or can you...
