And the winner is: 6x21 "Field Trip"

This is it, folks. Our last episode in the [livejournal.com profile] xf_is_love 20th anniversary rewatch. With six votes, "Field Trip" was the clear winner in our free-for-all contest. I love it, I nominated it, so I thank you.

This is one of the best standalone episodes of the series. I love how the plot twists and turns, how the point of view shifts from Scully to Mulder and back, how they start sharing each other's hallucinations. I love the twist ending. I even love the fanfiction.

Writers: story by Frank Spotnitz, teleplay by John Shiban and Vince Gilligan.
Director: Kim Manners
Originally aired: May 9, 1999

Synopsis: Mulder and Scully travel to rural North Carolina to investigate the mysterious deaths of Angela and Wallace Schiff. During their investigation, they become trapped underground inside a giant, flesh-eating mushroom. Before being rescued, they begin to have and then share vivid hallucinations.

Most Memorable Quote:
SCULLY: Mulder, this is not reality. This is a hallucination. It has to be. And either I am having it, or you are having it or we are having it together.

Fanfiction:
Contact High by Penumbra. Summary: "Scully drops by Mulder's apartment one evening and one thing sort of leads to another. Colonization metaphors abound. Mulder's new bed has a cameo." Also at Gossamer.

Bridge by Maria Nicole.
Summary: "The requisite case file story--post Folie a Deux, post Field Trip." We discussed it here at [livejournal.com profile] xf_book_club.
