xf_is_love. I'm writing this much later than I'd have liked to, mainly because I forgot I was posting today until yesterday, and so it's therefore shorter than I'd like it to be. There's a lot more I could say about the male gaze and The X Files, but if you take a look at the bibliography you'll find some of the articles out there covering this in more depth than I am in this essay.
Is Mulder’s comment to Holman in Rain King a serious reference to Mulvey’s concept of the male gaze? Were the writers planting an in joke that only students of pop culture would get? And if so, does their response to Mulvey hold up?
