And the winner is: 6x21 "Field Trip"

This is it, folks. Our last episode in the [livejournal.com profile] xf_is_love 20th anniversary rewatch. With six votes, "Field Trip" was the clear winner in our free-for-all contest. I love it, I nominated it, so I thank you.

This is one of the best standalone episodes of the series. I love how the plot twists and turns, how the point of view shifts from Scully to Mulder and back, how they start sharing each other's hallucinations. I love the twist ending. I even love the fanfiction.

Writers: story by Frank Spotnitz, teleplay by John Shiban and Vince Gilligan.

Synopsis: Mulder and Scully travel to rural North Carolina to investigate the mysterious deaths of Angela and Wallace Schiff. During their investigation, they become trapped underground inside a giant, flesh-eating mushroom. Before being rescued, they begin to have and then share vivid hallucinations.

Most Memorable Quote:
SCULLY: Mulder, this is not reality. This is a hallucination. It has to be. And either I am having it, or you are having it or we are having it together.

Happy Birthday, Fox Mulder (and Chris Carter, too)

Today is 10-13-2013, Fox Mulder's 52nd birthday. This final day has been designated a free-for-all.

You may post anything, as long as it's related to The X-Files: fanfic, podfic, graphics, fanart, icons, gifs, fanmixes, fandom memoirs, as well as photos of your complete collection of X-Files tie-in novels, your Black Oil Alien cosplay costume, your Scully raincoat, your Mulder tie collection, your defunct geocities website, and that yearly pilgrimage you still make to Vancouver. We want to see it all. Multiple entries are welcome.

I've been dithering for years about posting these images online because they're all incredibly old (ie, at least 10 years) and were created back when I first started learning about Photoshop (and photomanips in general).

However, the show's 20th anniversary celebration combined with the ridiculously spectacular weekend we've had in NYC (and realizing that today was my last chance to contribute to this community, something I haven't done for any fandom in years) has finally inspired me to just throw them out into the world at last, for whatever the heck it's worth.

do you still believe? )
A few of these were also recently added to my deviantART account, but I think this is probably a much better place for them.

This show will ALWAYS be my greatest TV love. Happy 20th, everyone! :)

X-Files Favourites...

Favourite Season: Season One. This season seems pretty unpolished, but that's actually what I like about it. Mulder is still wide-eyed with wonder, not the cynical person he'd later become, and Scully seems a lot happier, too -- in no small part because she hasn't yet been abducted. Because the conspiracy narrative hasn't yet spiraled out into complex and confusing ways, the mytharc episodes are a lot more simplistic -- though still pretty complicated (I think I've seen "E.B.E." over a hundred times, and I still haven't come up with a definitive idea about what's really going on). Read more... )

Favourite Character: Mulder. I love Scully, too, but I find Mulder much easier to relate to. I'm a skeptic, and I get told that I seem very "logical," so you'd think I'd relate better to Scully -- but Mulder's scatterbrained, outside-of-the-box way of thinking is more like how I think (Scully strikes me as more methodical and precise in her thought process), and I also tend to be obsessive, get stupidly excited about weird, random stuff, and I have a sarcastic sense of humour. So I guess I just feel more drawn to Mulder.

Favourite Episode: "E.B.E." As I mentioned above, I've watched this over a hundred times (well, probably). I'm not really sure why it's my favourite. Maybe it's the fact that it has so many twists and turns and you can never really figure out what's really going on. I love that scene in the beginning when they talk about swamp gas ("Swamp gas?"), and our first meeting with the Lone Gunmen is pretty awesome, and who doesn't love a UFO party?

Favourite Movie: Fight The Future. I admit that the plot doesn't make a lot of sense, and there's a lot of really ridiculous stuff (like how there's no explanation of how Mulder and Scully got back from Antarctica, or the fact that the Conspiracy is apparently breeding Noromo bees who hang around in Scully's collar doing nothing until Mulder tries to kiss her -- I'm not even a shipper, but come on, what are the chances of the bee not doing anything until that exact moment, I mean really) -- but it's a pretty exciting movie.

Favourite Quote:

SCULLY: Have you ever entertained the idea of trying to find life on this planet?
MULDER: I have seen the life on this planet, Scully, and that is exactly why I am looking elsewhere.
