You don't care what these people have sacrificed over the last nine years - what's been lost to their cause. You make a mockery of it, gladdened it proves your point.

I should say it up front: The Truth is not one of my favorite episodes. It may, in fact, be one of my least favorite episodes. It's a long annoying clip show with ghosts as major plot devices.

But where it fails to please me as a series finale, it delights me as an episode in which a lot of truths are laid bare. The conspiracy. The mythology. The characters we'd forgotten about and the sacrifices they made. The reminder of what an incredible journey we've been on. There is a lot in the episode that makes the world in which The X-Files is set just that much richer. (I would suggest reading a transcript of the episode. It's a good read.)

Without further tl;dr:

This mix is very much, but not entirely, about Mulder. I suppose it is because the episode tries very much to be about Mulder. I think the episode fails in that respect (imo a good thing) but I don't know if this fanmix succeeds any more than the episode.

What would you think of me if I told you I hadn’t slept in weeks? / I’ve been up chasing my childhood with a pen.

So That Every Word I Say Is True (mediafire/rar)

This deserves a bit of explanation. "Bulletproof" is aaaaaaall the rage on the radio where I am and the first time I'd heard it, my first thought was obviously "SPENDER :D :D :(" This was originally just to be a silly Jeffrey Spender fanmix (see Cher) but it gradually became a fanmix that more or less applies to everyone in that episode! (See Backstreet Boys! EVERYONE comes back in this episode!) In my head "I Like It Rough" is totally Mulder's jam during this episode and "Blind" is half made of CSM's dried hopes and dreams and half my tears of mourning when the episode ended. (In case that's not ridiculous enough, there is also a blingee copy of the cover.)

Next Time, Baby (mediafire/rar)

Title: Witness
Author: [livejournal.com profile] heartequals
Pairing: Gen (DRRish)
Rating: PG
Words: 318
Summary: Monica is a witness. (AO3)

After Spender gives his testimony, Monica drives him to a temporary safe house in rural Maryland.

He doesn’t speak for most of the ride out there, asking only to stop at a rest area and whether William has been safe as the trial progresses.

“Dana gave him up for adoption,” says Monica. “He’ll be safe now.”

“Ah,” says Spender. A little while later, he sighs.

Covarrubias glares at her. “There is no one by that name at this address,” she says. “Please leave my property.”

“Ms. Covarrubias,” says Monica, and then, “Marita.” She says, “Mulder is on trial for the murder of a man who cannot die. You are the only one who can help him.”

As if her words are a bullet, Marita shatters in front of her. “You take,” she cries, “and you take and you take and you take—“

As John enters the courtroom to tell Skinner who his next witness is, Monica feels suddenly possessive of the boy. “Are you sure, Gibson?” she asks, patting his hair down. “You don’t have to do this.”

He doesn’t even look up at her. “Yes I do.”

Right before he goes in she steps up to him to adjust his tie. Not because he needs it – like John Doggett will ever need his tie straightened – but because she needs to touch him. Dull anxiety curls in her chest and though she knows that he would never dream of it, she can’t help thinking that there is still time for him to turn around, walk out, leave with a mostly clean record—

“Mon,” he says, touching her shoulders. “It’s gonna be okay.”

“I know,” she mutters, but she cannot quite bring herself to put her hands down. Her fear for him is heavy.

He squeezes her shoulders. “Don’t worry. Kersh can’t kill me in court.”

She leaves the courtroom at a stride and, in the bathroom, weeps.

Taking both fanmixes! Great song choices, imo, and nice cover arts :)
